Beverley Lemgo Twinning
Association
Our Activities
So that you can judge whether or not our activities may be of
interest to you, here are brief details of just a few of
them.
For many years we have organised football
matches for junior and adult teams to play in both Lemgo and
Beverley.
A Lemgo sports club followed the advice of a European initiative
encouraging the organising of Eurathlon teams to run, cycle and swim to their
Twin towns. Lemgo's former East German twin town of Stendal sent a team to join
up with Lemgo to run and cycle to their French counterpart and then on to swim
the channel and run and cycle from Dover to Beverley, where we had arranged an
enjoyable weekend. Beverley Ramblers walk and socialise with the Lemgo
Wandergruppe on exchange visits.
 There have
been many exchanges of musicians, choirs, dancers and artists between the two
towns. A (classical) guitar quartet, dance groups from Beverley High and Little
Weighton schools, marching and concert bands, orchestras, string quartets.
Exhibitions of paintings, drawings and photographs.
The
Association has been very successful over the years in assisting groups and
individuals in broadening their experience of mainland Europe through contact
with our German opposites. The examples mentioned above are but a part of the
activities which we have helped to facilitate, and we are always open to
consideration of requests for help from people with other interests.
General exchanges between members
of both Associations are also very important in keeping this connection alive
and active. They help to maintain the long term well being of these firmly
established links.
